Series Overview

After his return in Young Men #24 the Human Torch was given his own series back continuing the numbering where the series left off. This was part of Atlas Comics attempt to revive their superheroes after seeing that DC Comics was seeing some success in doing so themselves. Unfortunately for Atlas, their heroes flopped real hard and Human Torch Comics was cancelled after just only three issues.

Reading these comics its not surprising as most of them were highly derivative science fiction stories or communist scare pieces. Even with Sub-Mariner stories as backups this title stank. The only notable thing about this title is that it attempted to build a stronger supporting cast for the Torch and Toro by introducing Chief Wilson and his daughter Betty, who I’m guessing they were trying to make a love interest for the Torch, but they developed nothing in that regard.

After their series was cancelled, Stan Lee revived the Human Torch concept in Fantastic Four #1 by introducing Johnny Storm. However, interest in the original Human Torch was piqued and the character was revived in Fantastic Four Annual #4. His partner Toro would also make a return in Sub-Mariner #14.
