The Lizard has caused people in downtown Manhattan to be completely controlled by the r-complex in their brains. This has caused chaos as people fuck and murder in the street as they give in to their baser instincts.

Spider-Man arrives on the scene and after drinking a serum created by Curt Connor’s to inhibit the r-complex he attacks the Lizard. The creature mocks him for ignoring his “lizard brain” as it is the only way he can survive. However, Spider-Man didn’t swallow all of the serum and spits some into the Lizard’s mouth. As a creature recoils, Spider-Man calls out to Curt Connors and tells him to fight back. The Lizard insists that Curt Connors is dead, but the creature recoils again when he shows it a picture of Billy Connors. This is because it has caused the memory of Billy’s murder at the Lizard’s hand to pop up in the creature’s mind.

Rejecting the images in his head, the Lizard orders the mob of people to attack Spider-Man. As they rip at Spider-Man’s costume and wreck his web-shooters, the Lizard recalls how he murdered Billy and how the boy knew that this was how his life was going to end. However, the Lizard calls off his mob because his mind if being flooded by images that he cannot understand. It thought that killing Billy was an act of strength because he saw the boy as the offspring of a rival mate. However, he suddenly doesn’t feel so strong and wonders why the images in his mind hold him back and make him want to cover his face. Spider-Man tells the Lizard that it is experiencing shame over killing a little boy. This causes the Lizard to pause and take a look at the world around him, from the tall buildings to an airplane passing in the sky and realizes that this was all man made. Seeing the world for what it really is, the Lizard realizes that it does not belong here and flees, releasing all the people from his control in the process. Spider-Man tries to stop him, but discovers that he is too weak to go after him.

Later, Peter Parker pays a visit to her Aunt May and seeing how miserable her nephew is, May finds herself in a conflict between her natural concern and the corrupting touch she received from Mister Negative.[1] However, Peter’s tears for Billy Connors are enough for the real Aunt May to break free from Mister Negative’s corruption. Seeing her nephew in tears, May tells Peter to move over and give her room on the couch because she’s back and there for him.
