Spider-Man has arrived at a crime scene to stop Spectrum, a new villain that has appeared in town. When he arrives he’s shocked to discover that Spectrum is using his powers to help a gang of purse snatchers steal from the disorientated crowd. However, this time Spectrum is not so talkative and since his spectrum changing powers render him invisible to the naked eye, all the web-slinger can do is nab the purse snatchers and return the stolen property. When he goes up to recover his camera, the web-slinger discovers that Spectrum’s powers can’t fool his camera and it captured his foe. That’s when Peter realizes that he left Michele Gonzales at the restaurant earlier and rushes back to the apartment they share.

When he arrives, Michele is not happy that Peter abandoned her and left her with the cheque, calling him the biggest flake she knows. Peter tries to explain his situation and she decides to accept it, but demands to see the photos of the crime scene. When she sees the photos of Spectrum and learns that his powers only affect people’s eye sight, Michele thinks about how she could win the case if she were to represent Spectrum, pointing out how hard it would be to convict him on anything especially since his powers renders him invisible to everyone else. When Peter asks how much he owes Michele for dinner, she tells him it didn’t cost anything because when Spectrum’s powers started messing with everyone’s perception the owner of the restaurant comped everyone before evacuating.

Later that evening, Peter goes on patrol as Spider-Man and thinks about what he can do to help the “Spider-Girls” — a trio of teenagers who do community work after being inspired by Spider-Man — who recently had their message co-opted by Teri Hillman, a reality TV star. Suddenly, he decides the best course of action is to confront Hillman directly.

He grabs a tabloid to learn where the celebrity lives and then breaks into her apartment. Unfortunately, the web-slinger accidentally sets off the alarm and is quickly confronted by two armed woman who act as Teri’s bodyguards.
