Series Overview

Despite what the morons over at Fandom think, Blackstone the Magician was not part of the Marvel Universe. In fact I made notes of that back when I worked there, but they have zero respect for research and some other bozo added him as being so. If you actually Googled Blackstone, you’d learn that he was a real life magician.

In fact, Blackstone the Magician was a licensed comic book published by Timely Comics. In fact, the series didn’t even start at Timely Comics. The first issue of the series was actually published over at EC Comics, the people who did Tales From the Crypt before moving over to Timely with issue #2. Why this happened, I have no idea. Anyway, the series only ran for four issues before being cancelled.

Anyway, he’s a real person, ergo his stories are likely a copyright that he held until his death in 1965. His son continued the family tradition until his death in 1997. I would assume that there is an estate that owns the copyrights to the Blackstone brand. This certainly isn’t a situation where the copyright has expired and Marvel has later co-opted the character. Nor is this a case where a licensed character was incorporated into the Marvel Universe (like with Conan, ROM the Spaceknight, the Shogun Warriors, Micronauts, Godzilla, Human Fly etc. etc. etc.) pretty much because Blackstone has never interacted with any Marvel own characters.

So why is this series included in my index? Well that’s because the Blonde Phantom appeared in backup stories in every issue of the Timely published issues.

Index Scope

I will only be indexing the issues with Blonde Phantom stories and only those Blonde Phantom stories. If you want to read comic books about real life magicians you can do it on your own time.
