Captain America #187

The Madness Maze

Following his latest clash with the Red Skull, Captain America now has to make sense of the revelation that his longtime partner, the Falcon, has been the Skull’s secret weapon.[1] As he, Peggy Carter and Gabe Jones try to figure out their next move, Cap is suddenly abducted from the scene by a glowing flying saucer.

Captain America finds himself transported to a maze hidden in a mountain. The man responsible tells Captain America that he must fight his way to the center of the maze where he will find only death. As he traverses the maze, the Avenger is attacked by humanoid creatures made out of a strange sponge-like substance. Fighting his way through these attackers and a series of death-traps. When the mastermind behind this scheme unleashes an army of flying drones, Cap uses one of them to smash his way through the maze’s walls and finds the nerve center of this operation. There, he battles an army of robed men under the command of the Demon Druid. Seeking to destroy Captain America, the Demon Druid then unleashes his latest creation, the Alchemoid, a being that harnesses the power of alchemy.

Recurring Characters

Captain America, Falcon, Dredmund the Druid, SHIELD (Peggy Carter, Gabe Jones)

Continuity Notes

  1. It was revealed last issue that Sam Wilson was actually a criminal brainwashed with the Cosmic Cube into becoming Captain America’s ideal partner as part of an elaborate scheme. All-New Captain America #3 however reveals that the Snap Wilson persona is a false identity created by the Skull. There are some outlying issues with that which I address here.
