Inside the boy -- Kip Roan -- roughs up the men inside the saloon demanding to know the location of his father Craig. When the men tell the boy his father is a no good outlaw, he gets angry and begins shooting. However, the boy is in over his head, but Kid Colt comes to his rescue and helps the boy escape town.

Taking a rest, Kid Colt learns the boy's story: That his father disappeared years ago and apparently went bad, breaking his mother's heart. Having grown up, Kip has become determined to try and find his father as he believes his father is still a good man. Kid Colt tries to convince the boy to swear off his hunt, but Kip remains determined to find his father. Resigning to the boy's wishes, Kid Colt decides to tag along and help him find his father. They begin travelling the territories searching for clues to the whereabouts of Craig Roan, but their search proves fruitless. In another town, Kid Colt tells Kip to let him ask around alone and asks the boy to wait for him in a nearby gully, and Kip complies.

Unknown to Kip, Kid Colt knows Kip's father and knows he is in the very town they were about to search. The Kid storms into the local saloon where he finds an outlaw named Blackie Thorp and demands that he meet with Craig Roan. Thorp agrees to let the Kid meet with Craig, but warns him not to convince Roan to leave his gang. Kid Colt goes up to Craig's room where he explains to the man that his boy desperately wants to find him. Craig is ashamed of the life that he has been living and asks Kid Colt not to turn him over to his son. However, Kid Colt convinces him to see his son, and Craig asks them to meet him outside of the Rancher's National Bank the following morning.

That morning, Craig Roan is among Thorp's gang who are planning to rob the bank. However, before they can do so, Craig suddenly turns on them and begins shooting at them just as Kid Colt and Kip arrive at the scene. The two young men then join Craig in the fire fight, wiping out Blackie Thorp and his gang. However, in the shoot out, Craig was fatally shot and dies. Having proven that he is a brave man, Craig dies happy and Kid Colt helps Kip bury his father.

When these gunmen try to rob the man, Kid Colt comes to his rescue. The man thanks him for his help, and the two pass on good terms, but stop short of introducing themselves by name.

Not far away in a cabin, Panhandle Payne learns that his men had failed to stop the man from Durango thanks to the interference of Kid Colt. Payne sees this man as a threat to his plans to rob the Locus Pass Bank, and comes up with a plan to stop the Kid and the man from Durango from further interference. He sends one of his men to Locus Pass to warn the sheriff that Kid Colt is in town, prompting the lawman to gather a posse to capture the outlaw. The sheriff and his men surround the saloon where Kid Colt is drinking and easily take him prisoner and toss him into a jail cell.

Later, the man from Durango appears at his window and helps Kid Colt file away the bars and escape. The man from Durango then convinces Kid Colt to help him defend the Lucas Pass Bank. When Panhandle Payne and his men storm the town to rob the bank, the two gunmen are there to greet them with guns blazing, wiping out the whole gang. In the aftermath of the battle, the man from Durango introduces himself as Sam Brady a Special Marshal. He then tells the Kid that he had two arrest warrants to carry out: one for Panhandle Payne and the other for Kid Colt. Since Kid Colt assisted him in stopping Payne, he allows the Kid to leave town without being arrested.
