Kid Colt is riding along the range and pauses when he happens upon a work crew setting up telegraph lines. He has to make a run for it when some of the work crew recognizes him. His escape is witnessed by the Waco Gang who believe that they can use Kid Colt’s presence in the area to their advantage. He points to the telegraph lines, saying that with those, the law can warn other towns when they commit robberies. He then says they are going to sabotage the lines and then pin the blame on Kid Colt.

Meanwhile, Kid Colt is dealing with a problem of his own, he needs to get out of the territory but can’t cross the desert without water. Unfortunately, the nearest watering hole is where the telegraph workers have set up camp. At that same moment, the leader of the Waco Gang disguises himself as Kid Colt and starts a fire at the camp, making sure the guard on duty sees him. While the men at the camp put out the fire and go out looking for the man responsible, the real Kid Colt discovers the trail of the men who started the fire. When he catches up with the Waco Gang they try to flee and run into the telegraph workers and they trick them into going after Kid Colt.

Kid Colt manages to give the telegraph workers the slip and finds the Waco Gang and stops them before they can blow up the telegraphers camp. He leaves them tied up and flees when the telegraphers come upon the scene of attempted sabotage.

He’s surprised to see that it’s only occupied by a woman and a bedridden old man.
