Series Overview

Miss Fury was a superhero that was featured in Sunday comic strips produced by Bell Syndicate. The strip ran until 1952. From 1942-1946, Miss Fury was licensed to Timely Comics who reprinted the Miss Fury strips in a comic book format. When Bell Syndicate went out of business in 1972, its characters eventually entered into the public domain. Since then Miss Fury has been revived by a number of different ways.

As this character is in the public domain, you can read all the original newspaper strips (that were used in the Timely book) at the Newspaper Comic Strip Archive. However, if you’re looking for a more polished reprint IDW has republished Miss Fury strips from 1941-1949 with their Library of American Comics imprint.

Is This Series Canonical?

Yes, but the scope of which is unspecified. Recently Miss Fury made a cameo appearance in The Twelve mini-series confirming that she exists in the Earth-616 reality. One could presume that all of the stories in the Timely books are considered canon.

Also, in the 90s, Malibu comics revived a number of public domain characters as part of their “Genesis Universe”, among those characters is Miss Fury. Malibu Comics was later purchased by Marvel Comics and their properties were absorbed into the company. The Genesis Universe is now considered a part of the Marvel Multiverse, according to Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A-Z #2, this universe has been designated as Reality-1136. Presumably, Miss Fury’s newspaper strips are considered canonical in that reality.

Index Scope

Like other Timely books, I am only indexing the Miss Fury stories and skipping the unrelated text stories that have been lumped into the series. Also, I’m only covering the stories published by Timely for the time being. I may go back later and add the newspaper strips but I’ll be tying that in with any Reality-1136 titles and I’m not going to even touch most alternate reality titles until my index covers the majority of Earth-616 titles.
