Spider-Man is web-slinging across the city thinking about how much he loves this part of his life. He then sees a high-speed chase going on. He swings down to the street level and forces his way into the speeding truck which he stops once he knocks out the crooks inside. That’s when the police surround the truck with guns drawn and order Spider-Man to surrender. The web-slinger has no intention of doing so and makes a hasty retreat.

Continuing his patrol, Spider-Man tries to not let the police sour his mood. That’s when he sees a flash of light shoot up into the sky from the distance. He tracks its source to an abandoned warehouse. Going inside, Spider-Man finds a strange portal device was the source of the light. He can’t make sense of the device and decides to look around for clues about what it does. That’s when he finds a giant fish-bowl helmet and realizes who is responsible. That’s when Mysterio tries to club Spider-Man from behind with a pipe. The web-slinger manages to evade it thanks to his spider-sense. The two duke it out and when Spider-Man tries to get answers out of Mysterio, he starts babbling about how he missed seeing Spider-Man die the first time around and won’t miss out on it this time.[1] Mysterio ultimately grabs a gun and tries to shoot Spider-Man but hits his portal device. Spider-Man suddenly finds himself sucked into a powerful vortex.

Spider-Man suddenly finds himself on a rooftop in the middle of the day in a slightly different version of Manhattan. Thinking this is one of Mysterio’s illusions he heads back to the building where they fought. When he comes crashing in through the skylight he is embarrassed to find himself in some woman’s apartment and quickly flees. As he tries to figure out his next move he spots a mugging in progress and stops the thieves. While their intended victim is grateful for the save, he tells Spider-Man that wearing Peter Parker’s old costume is in poor taste. Spider-Man is thoroughly confused and quickly leaves thinking his identity has been compromised.

Back on the rooftops, he decides to head back to his apartment and try and figure out what’s going on. That’s when he crosses paths with a young man in a black and red Spider-Man costume. Both Spider-Men are shocked to see one another.

Continuity Notes

  1. Mysterio is referring to the death of the Peter Parker of Earth-1610. That Spider-Man died in a battle with the Green Goblin in Ultimate Spider-Man #160. Or at least it seemed as such, Peter Parker will return to life in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #6. It is revealed that the OZ formula that granted him his powers also made him immortal.
