Mysterio paces around his hideout and gloats that he has ended Spider-Man’s life by trapping him in another dimension. He convinces himself that for all intents and purposes he has destroyed Spider-Man.[1] All he has to do is keep the dimensional portal closed and Spider-Man is trapped. However, Mysterio can’t help the urge to look and activates another one of his avatars. When he activates the portal a web-line comes through and yanks the real Mysterio through.

Mysterio then finds himself face-to-face with the Spider-Men of two worlds, the Ultimates, and Nick Fury and his agents of SHIELD. As Mysterio is taken into custody, Nick Fury radios for scientists to come and examine the portal. Iron Man looks at it first and determines that the portal is very unstable. Fury tells Stark to stay away from the portal, saying the only person who is going through it is Peter Parker then it is going to be shut down for good. As Peter is saying goodbye to Miles Morales, Mysterio breaks free and rushes to one of his computers.

He sets off some explosive charges, then drops his hallucinogenic gas. It starts affecting each person differently. For Iron Man, he sees a world where the Triskelion is on fire and the Ultimates are dead. Nick Fury sees a version of New York in flames. Peter Parker sees a world where the Green Goblin hires Doctor Octopus to kill his Aunt May. Lastly, Miles sees a world where his uncle, the Prowler, has murdered his parents.[2] Peter tries to get everyone to stay calm but Mysterio makes a break for the portal. Miles sees this and tries to tackle him, but ends up sending both of themselves through the portal. Miles resists the urge to go exploring and when Mysterio tries attacking him, Miles pushes them both back through the portal. There Miles knocks Mysterio out with a venom blast.

With the battle over, Nick Fury puts Mysterio under arrest. Spider-Man isn’t sure if he wants to leave Mysterio on this world, but Fury points out that it is the best place to keep him if he wants to keep his identity a secret. Peter realizes that he’s right. That’s when Iron Man tells Peter that he needs to go through the portal as soon as possible because it is growing even more unstable. Before he goes, Peter tells Miles that he has his blessing and thanks everyone else for their help. Before he goes he has some advice for Miles, however, he gets cut off as the portal closes.[3] With Peter Parker back in his own reality, Nick Fury tells Stark to get away from it so they can have it destroyed.

Back at home, Peter returns to his apartment and takes a long shower. When he gets out he decides to do an internet search to see if there is a Miles Morales in his reality. What he sees is comes as a shock.[4]

Recurring Characters

Spider-Man (Parker), Spider-Man (Morales), Mysterio, SHIELD (Nick Fury), Ultimates (Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye)

Continuity Notes

  1. He mentions how the Peter Parker of this other reality is dead. The Ultimate Spider-Man died fighting the Green Goblin in Ultimate Spider-Man #160.

  2. Although these are hallucinations, the Unofficial Appendix has identified them as alternate realities. They have been classified as Realities 12125 (the Ultimates are dead), 32125 (New York in flames), 35125 (Doc Ock kills Aunt May), and 35525 (Prowler kills Miles’ parents)

  3. Peter gives Miles pieces of advice that are very specific. They are:

    • He tells Miles to never let anyone clone him. Peter has had a lot of bad experiences with clones dating back to Amazing Spider-Man #149 when the Jackal first sent a clone after him.

    • He tells him if Doctor Octopus tries to marry Aunt May to stop it. Peter’s own Aunt May was almost tricked into marrying Doctor Octopus in Amazing Spider-Man #131.
