Kid Colt is called to aid a tribe of Pueblo Native Americans by his friend and chief Red Willow in defending them from an attack by a local tribe of Apaches. Kid Colt agrees to help and them defend themselves from the Apaches. When the Apaches attack, Kid Colt is surprised to find that someone has armed them with guns, but he and the Pueblos manage to fight them off.

Seeing this from cover, Ryker and his gang -- the man who equipped the Apaches with guns -- decides to turn the tide of battle with a trick by sending one of their men disguised as the Black Ogre, a Katchina god that the Pueblo people fear most. Kid Colt does not believe that this could possibly be a god and is proven right when he shoots it dead and reveals that it is a white man wearing a costume.

Mounting his horse Steel, Kid Colt then races after Ryker and last surviving man as they flee into the woods. However, Kid Colt runs right into a rope trap they set for him, tripping Steel and sending Kid Colt flying off his horse. Stunned, Kid Colt is shocked when he sees what appears to be the real Black Ogre appear and slay Ryker and his men before passing out. When Kid Colt comes around he believes the the appearance of a Katchina was a hallucination until he comes across the corpses of Ryker and his men. Not sure if he believes that the Black Ogre was real or not, Kid Colt considers his job done and rides out of the Pueblo village.
