Series Overview

Wild Western was the first western anthology series published by Timely Comics. It ran for 18 issues before the company changed over to Atlas Comics where the series continued for a total of 57 issues. The series was originally called Wild West for the first two issues. The first issue introduced the western character Tex Taylor. It also featured Two-Gun Kid and Arizona Annie stories as well as generic one-off stories. Tex Taylor remained a regular staple of the series until issue #12. Tex Taylor was a regular feature as well until issue #14, although he was re-named the Prairie Kid for his last three appearances in this series. Arizona Annie did not last quite as long, being rotated out of the title in Wild Western #4.

Issue #3 also added Tex Morgan as well as “The Sheriff”, aka Blaze Carson from issue #5 onward. Tex Morgan appeared until issue #14 as well, he also underwent an identity change to Red Hawkins in issue #13. Kid Colt joined the title in issue #4 and appeared until issue #11. The Black Rider started appearing regularly in issue #5 and remained as a regular feature through the entire Timely Run of this series. Issue #15 saw a change in the regular rotation with the addition of the Apache Kid and the Gunhawk to the title.

Index Scope

This index features issue #1-18 that were published in the Timely era of publication. For issues #19-57 are indexed in the Atlas era section of this site. We will only be indexing stories of canonical value so we’re skipping any text stories or one-off western stories. This also includes omitting issue #10, which featured nothing but one-off stories.
