While riding along the trail, Kid Colt is stopped by a gang of armed men who tell him that there is a detour around Black Mesa, telling him that the town is closed. He’s warned that all trails into Black Mesa are closed off and that it would be best if he just goes around. Suspecting that something suspicious is going on, Kid Colt decides to double back. Ordering his horse Steel to charge, Kid Colt manages to run his way through the barricade and gets into town. When he tries to shoot back at the men blocking the roads, Kid Colt discovers that his guns are suddenly jammed.

When he arrives in town, nobody seems aware of the fact that the town has been closed off, even though it is the most important gold shipment center in the west. He decides to go to the local gun shop to get his guns repaired but discovers that the store is out of business. The locals tell him that there are no gunshops in town but they suggest the former repairman, Pop Watson, might be able to fix them. Paying a visit to Pop Watson, Kid Colt asks why the town won’t support a gun repair shop. Pop explains that the locals have gotten so lazy when guns break down they just throw them out and buy new ones. Even the soldiers that defend the town have grown complacent. That’s when Kid Colt tells Pop that the town has been closed off from the outside world. Pop fears that the town isn’t prepared.

Kid Colt goes to warn the mayor of the danger coming to town but he ignores the warning. When the captain of the military unit is similarly disinterested, Kid Colt draws his guns and forces the captain to see with his own eyes what’s going on just outside the city. The captain returns to the city, they gather every able-bodied man in town together. However, they have no guns because they left them at the repair shop when they all refused to pay the bills. Surprisingly, Pop repaired all the guns long ago and they are ready to be used. The men gladly pay their bills to get their guns back and soon Kid Colt leads an army against the outlaws that are coming to rob heir town. After the battle is over, the locals thank Kid Colt for teaching them not to take their safety and security for granted.

Gantry’s Curse!

Riding into town, Kid Colt is splashed with mud as two men ride past him. He draws his guns to teach them a lesson but by then they are out of range. That’s when one of the locals warns the Kid to make sure he can see out of both eyes before he picks a fight with Boot Ballam. Still, Kid Colt decides to follow after the men who got him dirty. He finds Boot trying to sell a pair of golden spurs to a shop keeper, but unfortunately, the spurs are too expensive for the shopkeep to buy. That’s when Kid Colt enters the store and warns the shopkeeper that only one person wears a pair of spurs like that, Clay Gantry. Boot grows angry with the stranger, especially when Kid Colt suggests that Ballam stole the spurs from Clay Gantry. Still, the shop keeper wants to see a bill of sale to make sure the spurs aren’t stolen. When Boot and his men draw their guns, Kid Colt proves to be faster at the draw than them and he forces them to leave.

Kid Colt get to talking about the eccentric Clay Gantry, who is incredibly wealthy. Despite his riches, Gantry lives in a shack that is reported to be haunted. Curious to know the truth about the golden spurs, Kid Colt decides to pay a visit to Clay Gantry. By the time Kid Colt gets to Gantry’s shack he discovers that someone has murdered the old man. Returning to town in the morning, Kid Colt meets with the sheriff to tell him what he has discovered. The death of Gantry makes it hard to disprove Boot Ballam’s claim that he bought the spurs from Clay five years previously. The sheriff also wonders if the thieves were after something specific. They decide to pay close attention when Clay Gantry’s belongings are auctioned off.

During the auction, the last item is a worn-out Peterson Colt that nobody is interested in buying. Wanting a momento to remember Clay Gantry, Kid Colt ends up paying half a dollar for the gun. Later that day a shop keeper recognizes the gun and tells the Kid that only 1000 were made and that that model of Colt will soon be very valuable. Suddenly, someone outside tries to shoot the Kid, but the bullet strikes the old colt instead. The Kid then chases the shooter out of town where he is ambushed Boot Ballem. He admits to killing Gantry and that he has been trying to figure out the secret location of his hidden fortune. He figures the one item that must have the secret is the old gun that Kid Colt hat purchased. Taking the gun away, Boot takes a look at the gun and determines that it is actually junk. He decides to kill Kid Colt with the gun, but it misfires in his hands. This allows Kid Colt to draw his guns on the outlaws. As he takes them into custody, Kid Colt picks up the shattered gun off the ground and is surprised when precious gems tumble out of the barrel, explaining both where Gantry’s fortune was hidden and why the gun misfired.

Kid Colt is riding the train when he spots a gang of outlaws swarming a wagon circle. Rushing to the aid of the people pinned down, Kid Colt ducks to cover and begin firing at the outlaws with his rifle. Thanks to the Kid’s shooting the outlaws quickly surrender and the people in the wagon train decide to let them loose because they can’t keep them the outlaws prisoner until they get to town. Kid Colt warns them that these men are part of Butte Cantrell and he’ll keep on attacking wagon trains until he is brought to justice. Set free, Butte Cantrell warns Kid Colt that he will come after him. After the outlaws depart, Cantrell knows that the only way to defeat Kid Colt is to hire someone who is just as skilled as a gunman as he is. That man is the outlaw named Snake Guthrie who agrees to take on the job after Butte Cantrell meets his price. When Guthrie enters the town of Killdeer, people get into a panic because of the gunman’s reputation. The people in town start demanding that the sheriff do something about Snake Guthrie, but Kid Colt won’t allow it since the rival outlaw is after him and him alone. Kid Colt intends on facing Snake Guthrie one-on-one but asks the sheriff and his men to be on hand incase Butte Cantrell and his men try to interfere.

Eventually, Kid Colt squares off against Snake Guthrie in the center of town. The two men draw but only one person could survive. The locals are all shocked by the outcome and when Snake Guthrie enters the sheriff’s office he can’t believe what happened either before he collapses from his gunshot wound.
