Kid Colt has cornered the Wolf Pack, a gang of outlaws who have been robbing people on the trails, in an abandoned home. Although the Kid has the drop on the gang, one of their number manages to sneak up behind the Kid and push him down a hole in the floor. Figuring Kid Colt is trapped below, the gang leaves so they can go and rob a stagecoach that recently left town. When Kid Colt recovers from his fall, he discovers that he is inside an abandoned mine. Searching for a way out he discovers some gold was missed when the mine was active. Once he gets free, Kid Colt uses a chunk of gold to rent a horse from an old man. However, the old man tells Kid Colt he can keep the horse if he can tell him where to find the gold, without hesitation, Kid Colt tells him where he can find the rest of the wealthy mineral.

When Kid Colt rides into Blaze City, he finds Steel — his horse — tied up outside a saloon confirming that the Wolf Pack hasn’t gone after the stagecoach yet. Inside, he finds Swanson, one of the Wolf Pack. Overpowering the outlaw he learns that the rest of his gang went up to Sunset Hallow where they intend to ambush the wagon train once they set up camp for the night. After turning over Swanson to the sheriff, Kid Colt recovers Steel and races for Sunset Hallow. He arrives just in time to ambush the outlaws and after disarming them, ties them to their horses to bring back to town so they can face justice.

When Kid Colt orders him to freeze, the man tries to make a run for it Kid Colt blinds with dust and takes him to the sheriff. Unfortunately, Cobra King has the entire town too afraid to testify. Instead of allowing the thief to go free, Kid Colt decides to press charges himself. When Cobra King tries to draw his guns, Kid Colt proves faster at the draw and shoots the guns out of Cobra’s hands. The Kid then tells the sheriff to lock up the thief and then warns Cobra King not to show his face in town anymore. The sheriff warns Kid Colt that he just kicked up a hornet’s nest. When he asks why the Cobra King gang keeps on hitting the town, it’s because they want to force out the businesses so they sell cheap.

As they go outside, Kid Colt and the sheriff learn that the locals are getting fed up and are willing to sell for cheap. However, Kid Colt tells the sheriff to have everyone hold out for one more day. The following morning, Kid Colt puts out a sign announcing that he is the new manager of the Golden Eagle Cafe. When George Tyson is concerned that Kid Colt will be run out of town, the Kid asks why he would be concerned about somebody else after he recently bought two local businesses. When Tyson walks away instead of answering the question, Kid Colt becomes suspicious. Once back in his office, George Tyson orders one of his men to send word to the Cobra King gang that they are to run Kid Colt out of town no matter what.

When Cobra King and his men arrive at the cafe later that day, Kid Colt is ready for them as he rigged a number of saddles overhead. When they draw their guns, Kid Colt shoots the saddles down and they fall on the outlaws incapacitating them. When George Tyson tries to shoot the Kid from the balcony, he is warned by the sheriff and is able to swing around fast enough to shoot the gun out of Tyson’s hands. With George Tyson’s involvement exposed and the gang sent to jail, Kid Colt figures that Cloud City’s troubles are over.

Showdown in Smoke Mesa!

When Kid Colt arrives at the Diablo Range, a haunt for local rustlers, some outlaws begin shooting at him. The leader of the gang tells Kid Colt to get lost. However, the Kid wants to get to Smoke Mesa and the fence is in his way. When he asks them to open the gate and let him through the three outlaws laugh in his face. To show he’s not joking, Kid Colt draws and shoots all the guns out of their hands. He then tells the outlaws that this is open range and to tell his boss that Kid Colt came through and that he’ll come back the same way. As Kid Colt rides off, the men don’t think their boss — Bulldog Cass — will be very happy.

When Kid Colt arrives in Smoke Mesa, his encounter with the outlaws of the Diablo Range is already well known and everyone figures that Kid Colt is destined for an early grave. That’s when the sheriff approaches Kid Colt and points out the trouble his bringing on the town as shop keepers are shutting down. He goes on to say there are two reasons why that happens, either a storm or Bulldog Cass is coming to town. Kid Colt tells the sheriff to assure the people that everything is going to be fine because he always finishes what he starts.

Kid Colt waits out the arrival of Bulldog Cass and his gang. Twelve men come charging at Kid Colt but he easily incapacitates them all by shooting the guns out of their hands and then shooting free their saddles. With all of his men defeated, Bulldog Cass approaches Kid Colt. He is impressed with the Kid’s shooting and informs Colt that he has decided to open up the Diablo Range and the people of Smoke Mesa have nothing to fear from his men anymore.

Kid Colt Outlaw

Realizing that someone has been following him along the Cochise Trail, Kid Colt climbs up in a tree to ambush them. When the man following him passes by the tree Kid Colt snares him in a lasso. The young man has been following Kid Colt because he thinks the Kid shot his father in cold blood. Kid Colt insists that he has never bushwacked a man in his life. To prove it, he lets the boy go, and when the young man draws his guns, Kid Colt shoots them out of his hands. When Kid Colt spares the boy’s life, he is finally convinced that Kid Colt didn’t shoot his father. However, he tells the Kid that everyone in Burro Flats swore that he was the man who did it.

Curious, Kid Colt decides to accompany the lad back to Burro Flats so he can help him find the real shooter. Billy takes Kid Colt to meet his father who is still recovering from his wounds. Kid Colt learns that the shooter ambushed Billy’s father from behind and didn’t have to cock his pistols to shoot. The Kid deduces that the shooter must have been using the new double-action Colts, a type of gun that he hasn’t seen in these parts before. With this evidence, Kid Colt decides to investigate things further. Before leaving, he gives BIlly a mustard seed quartz, telling him that it is a symbol of hope. He tells the boy to hope for the best and his father will probably make it through his injuries.

When riding into town, Kid Colt can feel all the eyes on him as Sam Graham was well-loved in the community. He pays a visit to the local gun shop and asks if the owner had recently sold some double-action Colts. He learns that he had recently sold two to a man named Mike Tate. Kid Colt goes into the local saloon to refill his canteen. Once there, Sam Tate begins sturring people up by accusing Kid Colt of shooting Sam Graham. However, the Kid tells them that Mike Tate is dead and that he revealed the identity of the killer and that the real killer is in the room with them. After sweating it out, Mike Tate outs himself by trying to kill Kid Colt. The Kid shoots the guns out of his hands and turns him over to the sheriff. Later, Kid Colt pays a visit to the Grahams and learns that Sam is expected to pull through.
