Kid Colt is confronted a bunch of men who have come to make him pay up for passing through Crooked Canyon. However, the Kid refuses to pay up and outfights the men. They flee the scene when Kid Colt draws his guns. He later learns from the sheriff that a lot of local ranchers are unable to get their cattle through the region without paying the toll and are suffering for it. Kid Colt agrees to join them to make sure they get through Crooked Canyon unmolested.

Along the way, Kid Colt meets with the outlaws charging a toll and tells them that they will let them through for free. When they refuse, the cattlemen surround them forcing the outlaws to flee up the trail a piece and set another trap for them. However, Kid Colt is ready and at first, it looks like they are just letting the cattle run through the trail, they are unaware that Kid Colt and the cattlemen are hiding among the cattle and are able to ambush the outlaws. With the outlaws under arrest, Kid Colt figures the locals won’t have any trouble moving cattle through Crooked Canyon anymore.

In the town of Tumbleweed, Kid Colt is amazed that the entire town is completely ignoring the masked men who are robbing the local bank. Kid Colt tries to stop the robbery but the robbers getaway. Surprisingly the townsfolk are furious with him and take him to the local sheriff. The sheriff explains that they intended for the outlaws to steal the money and that the money was marked so they might learn the identity of these thieves are using the stolen money to buy up Paiute land that the government is attempting to buy. Apologizing for almost foiling their plans, Kid Colt heads out of town.

The gang that committed the robbery are not happy with the interference they had to deal with and when they spot Kid Colt riding the trail try and ambush him. Kid Colt explains he tried to stop them because he was targeting that bank and was angry that they beat him to it. He boasts how he could have hit that bank alone and offers to get the money they ended up losing when he interfered earlier. His only condition is going to recover the loot alone. The gang leader agrees and when Kid Colt returns with the lost money, they outlaws are impressed.

Kid Colt is taken to their leader where he demands a 50% cut on the full amount, saying he did all of the work. This angers the outlaws, but before they can eliminate Kid Colt the law shows up to lend him a hand in apprehending them.

While eating in a saloon with other travellers, Kid Colt is startled when the sheriff of Deadwood comes bursting in and demands every stranger provide their identification. Kid Colt introduces himself but says he doesn’t have any papers. The sheriff has heard of the Kid before and warns him to keep out of trouble in his town. After checking everyone else’s identification he asks Kid Colt to accompany him to his office. There the sheriff tells him that he is on high alert because two outlaws named Spin Bradshaw and Natchez Payne are supposed to be coming to Deadwood to settle their feud. As it turns out, Spin Bradshaw has a grudge against the Payne family because Natchez’s father allegedly murdered Spin’s father. Kid Colt agrees to help prevent any violence from happening on the streets.

He asks the local blacksmith and his son to let him know if either man arrives in town. Sure enough, when the two men show up to duel, Kid Colt tries to stop them. That’s when an old timer comes running out from inside a barn with guns drawn and tells everyone to stop. This old man reveals that he’s Hank Bradshaw, Spin’s father. He explains that he just decided to leave home one day and disappear. However, once he heard about the ridiculous feud between his family and the Payne family, he decided to come out of hiding and end it.

A US Marshall comes to arrest Kid Colt, saying that the Kid has been accused of robbing the bank in Castina. Kid Colt denies ever being there and refuses to surrender. When the other men in the room try to stop the marshall from arresting Kid Colt, the outlaw hero manages to get outside and escape on his horse before the marshall or his men can apprehend him.

Kid Colt runs into some outlaws who ask them to join up with him, but he refuses saying he doesn’t need any trouble and will deal with the law himself. After the outlaws leave, the marshall catches him and having overheard the Kid is impressed with the bravery. That’s when the four hard cases ambush the marshall and the Kid, intending on killing them both and then collecting the bounty on Kid Colt for themselves.

The pair fight side by side and disarm the outlaws and after they are tied up, Kid Colt asks to see the warrant for his arrest. That’s when he points out that there is an ink smudge on the paper. As it turns out, the marshall was supposed to arrest a crook name Kid Bolt, not Kid Colt.
