Joe Morse rushes outside to tell Kid Colt that he needs to get out of town immediately because Sam Hawk, aka the Manhunter, is coming to town. Kid Colt has heard about this US Marshal and his reputation for always getting his man but he is not concerned. Kid Colt’s complacency ends up biting him in the ass when he helps a man in a gunfight with two outlaws. This man turns out to be Sam Hawk who instantly recognizes Kid Colt. Kid Colt learns that Sam Hawk doesn’t screw around either when the marshall shoots him in the chest.

When Kid Colt comes too he is being treated by a doctor in a jail cell. After Kid Colt is patched up, Sam Hawk says he’s going to stay right by Kid Colt’s side until he gets the outlaw to trial. Once Kid Colt is well enough to ride, Sam Hawk takes the Kid out and escorts him out of town. When they are crossing a tight mountain pass, Kid Colt tries to attack Sam Hawk. In the ensuing struggle, Kid Colt appears to fall off the edge of the cliff to his death. However, when Sam searches the area he can’t find the body. This is because Kid Colt was able to grab a tree branch sticking out of a rock outcropping and use it to swing into a tiny cave.

By the time Kid Colt gets back to his horse, Sam Hawk is at the bottom of the mountain. Seeing Kid Colt getting away, Hawk tries in vain to shoot him, vowing to catch Kid Colt and bring him to justice.

  1. Tom Walker says he doesn’t know why Kid Colt is an outlaw and isn’t overly interested. Which is fair since there are many conflicting accounts as to why Kid Colt is an outlaw as detailed in Kid Colt: Hero of the West #1, Kid Colt Outlaw #11, 39 and Kid Colt #4. The common thread of these stories is that Kid Colt is wanted for killing the men responsible for murdering a family member(s).

Crazy Fox Strikes!

In Twin Forks, Texas, Kid Colt is approached by the sheriff who hasn’t come to arrest the outlaw but to ask for his help. Taking the Kid outside he points to smoke that is rising in the distance. He says are caused by a band of Comanches led by a man named Crazy Fox. Kid Colt knows Crazy Fox as they are blood brothers and as such Crazy Fox vowed never to attack a white man again. The sheriff asks Kid Colt to go up and tell Crazy Fox and his people not to attack their town. If Kid Colt does this, the sheriff will forget that he’s a wanted outlaw. Kid Colt tells the sheriff that he has a deal and rides up into the mountains.

There, Kid Colt is ambushed by the Comanches who are now under the command of a new leader, Black Crow, who intends on going to war against the white man who occupies his ancestral land. Kid Colt is overpowered and taken prisoner and he soon discovers that Crazy Fox is a prisoner as well, usurped from his position by Black Crow. He explains that Black Crow won the right to lead their people after he defeated Crazy Fox in a one-on-one fight.

Kid Colt decides to do something about this and asks Crazy Fox to trade clothes with him. Disguised as Crazy Fox, Kid Colt challenges Black Crow in battle for leadership of the tribe. When Kid Colt begins winning the fight, Black Crow cheats by grabbing a spear. However, when he throws it, Kid Colt manages to grab the weapon. Fearing for his life, Black Crow backs away from Kid Colt and accidentally steps off a cliff to his death. While everyone is distracted, Kid Colt swaps clothes with Crazy Fox again, who then retakes his rightful place as the leader of his people.

Crazy Fox then promises Kid Colt that his people will cease hostilities with the people of Twin Forks.

The Other Kid Colt!

In an Arizona town, Kid Colt is shocked when some locals come in to celebrate their sheriff’s capture of Kid Colt. Learning that the sheriff is going to parade the outlaw through town, the owner closes his saloon so he can see with everyone else. Kid Colt notices that this other man has a minor resemblance to him and can’t help but notice how scared he is. Seeing this as a stroke of luck, Kid Colt decides at first. However, his conscience can’t allow him to allow another man to take the fall for him and rides back to town.

Kid Colt rides back to town and interrupts the trail saying that he is the real Kid Colt. However, the judge had just deduced this a wasted effort for Kid Colt. Jumping out the window, Kid Colt makes a break for it on his horse and tries to lose his pursuers in the mountains. Taking refuge in a cave, Kid Colt tries to sleep but he is woken up by a local man. However, he isn’t there to turn Kid Colt in but to help him find a way out of the mountains and to freedom.

After they are back on the trail, Kid Colt asks why this man helped him. He explains that it was his son that was on trial and Kid Colt didn’t have to go back and save his life, being a stranger and all. Since Kid Colt was willing to do that for his son, the man decided that he should return the favor.
