“Then”

Spider-Man and Wolverine have been sent through time and space. Ultimately, they have ended up in the Mojoverse where they discover that Mojo had been manipulating them for a new television show. Things have taken a turn for the worst when Wolverine turns into a Dark Phoenix.

“Now”

Peter Parker is woken up by Sara Bailey, the pair are having a picnic somewhere out in the American Frontier. The two pack up their wagon and continue on their trek when they come upon Wolverine dressed in Native American garb. He asks Parker why he shouldn’t scalp him and Peter offers him his latest “invention” the bacon cheeseburger. This is enough to satisfy Logan who welcomes them back to their camp.

That evening, Peter and Sara sit at a camp fire with Logan’s tribe. Peter tells them the story about when their chief had the power to destroy everything in existence. He tries to explain how Wolverine became a host for the Phoenix Force when he fired the Phoenix Gun at Doom the Living Planet in the distant future.

“Then”

Seeing Wolverine suspended in the air surrounded by a flaming bird, Spider-Man tries to tell everyone to remain calm. Although Czar thinks they are doomed, Spider-Man did what he did best.

“Now”

Logan takes over telling the story, saying that Peter talked, a lot. Even though Logan was raging with power that sought to consume everything and Peter Parker just talked. He talked about everything that crossed his mind, including getting to know the woman he just met — Sara Bailey. Just like that, Peter Parker saved them all.

Logan says that he and Peter have known each other for a long time and there were many times that all he wanted to do was kill Peter. Now, however, he has come to respect Peter like a brother. With that, Logan pops one of his claws and slices the palm of his hand. He then does the same with Peter and the two hold hands in a symbolic ritual to proclaim each other as blood brothers. Later that evening Peter and Logan sit on a bute alone and talk about all the things they miss about the era they came from.

That’s when Peter admits to Logan that he has stopped looking for more time diamonds to try and get back home. The only one he has left is the one that brought them to the Old West and it hasn’t glowed since they got to this era. Logan tells Peter that he did all he could. They then look over at Sara who is sleeping at the camp and think about how well she adjusted to all of this, having just opened her second bank in this era.

Thinking back to that final moment, Peter admits that none of it makes any sense, which bothers him because he has always relied on things making sense.[1]

“Then”

Spider-Man has just finished his long-winded speech about why Wolverine shouldn’t destroy all existence. Wolverine responds by blasting the wall-crawler with cosmic fire. Suddenly, the Orb comes through a portal and warns them that the Minutemen are coming. That’s when arms pull him back through the portal. These same hands also yank Czar and Mojo through the portal as well. By this point, Wolverine has returned to normal after convincing the Phoenix Force to leave him. Before the Minutemen could grab them, Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Sara are all suddenly transported to the days of the American Frontier. It was then that Spider-Man asked Sara to go out with him.

“Now”

As Peter recollects this he tells Logan that he is going to ask Sara to marry him and shows him the ring he fashioned out of the time diamond that brought them here. Suddenly it begins to glow. That’s when Sara calls out for help. When Peter and Logan turn to see what’s wrong they watch as mechanical hands pull her through a time portal. They are suddenly swarmed by the Minutemen, cybernetic enforcers representing the Time Variance Authority. They accuse both Spider-Man and Wolverine of time larceny.

However, they refuse to go down without a fight and as they are swarmed by overwhelming odds, Peter thinks their timing sucks. They suddenly find themselves back in the bank as though nothing happened. Seeing Sara behind the teller window, she asks her if she is okay and is disappointed when she asks him how he knows her name. Spider-Man realizes that she has no memory of anything that happened. Both Spider-Man and Wolverine are speechless and decide to go their separate ways when the police come for the Orb. Still Spider-Man can’t help but think this all happened for a reason.

In the distant past, Dog Logan continues to hunt for his brother and steps into the abandoned mine. Further back in the past, Mojo dances in front of a campfire with early humans. In the present, Logan finds a bar and continues ordering drinks. Elsewhere, one of the Orb’s minions managed to escape the police and has brought them to a drug dealer named Czar hoping to make some fast money. In the 1800s, Dog Logan finds one of the time diamonds and disappears in a flash of light. Back at the X-Mansion, the Beast suddenly has a moment of inspiration: a Phoenix Gun. While in Latveria, Doctor Doom observes Ego the Living Planet from one of his monitors and also gets a moment of inspiration. While back in New York, Czar decides he wants the diamonds after all and tells Big Murder to get his bat. Meanwhile, Sara Baily goes about her life unaware of everything she experiences. When she walks past advertisements for an exhibit of Mesozoic relics she doesn’t recognize her own face in one of the stone carvings.

Meanwhile, Spider-Man has returned to the tree where, in the Old West, he carved his and Sara Baily’s initials. The tree is still there, nestled in an alley between two houses. He sits there hoping that someone will come and tell him what it all means and fears that it was all for nothing. Back at the bar, Logan looks at his hand and see that his glove still has a cut in it when he performed the blood brother ceremony with Peter.

Somewhere else, Dog Logan appears in an alley in the modern age. He doesn’t know what happened, but he’s damned sure he knows what’ll happen next.
